Today is World Sight Day

It’s World Sight Day on 9 October. The IAPB, leading the event, invites all involved in eye care to #LoveYourEyes and help make the case for eye care that is accessible, available, and affordable for everyone, everywhere.

If you have an event or social media campaign planned, maybe for our Charity Sponsors #Sightsavers or another support group let us know how it went (mail@primaryhealthnet.com)

Optical sector: Help Sightsavers put people at the heart of eye health

The right to sight is not universal. More than 85% of people with vision impairment live in low and middle income countries, and 70% of people with refractive error in Africa do not have the glasses they need.  Making eye health a priority is transformative for people, communities, and nations. Good eye health  reduces inequality, keeps  children learning and enables adults to work and thrive. Access to glasses and cataract surgery can boost learning and economic productivity.
As optical professionals, you are already making a difference to eye health locally. But on a global scale we need your help to make big changes.  The international development organisation Sightsavers supports  the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) call to make eye health a priority and put people at the heart of efforts. With shared goals, the optical sector is perfectly placed to partner with t Sightsavers to end avoidable blindness.
Thanks to incredible support in previous years, Sightsavers  are continuing its  successful #EyeCreation challenge for World Sight Day 2025.  As an OpChat charity partner, Sightsavers invites all subscribers to join in and help raise awareness of avoidable blindness in a fun and creative way.

Take action: the #EyeCreation challenge on World Sight Day
On World Sight Day – Thursday 9 October 2025 – create an eye shape using anything you have to hand.
