GOC suspends Dollar based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to suspend Denton Barcroft, an optometrist based in Dollar in Scotland, from its register for four months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. This is in relation to providing inadequate care to a patient on three occasions. This includes failing to identify and/or record signs of proliferative diabetic retinopathy in the patient, and failing to do what was clinically indicated such as making an urgent referral to the hospital eye service.

Mr Barcroft has until 26 August 2025 to appeal against his suspension, during which time he is under an immediate suspension order.
