Fiona Anderson, takes office as Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers
Dispensing Optician Fiona Anderson was installed this week as Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
Fiona is much in demand around the world as a practical examiner and speaker. She is a Past President of both her own professional body, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO), and of the International Opticians Association (IOA). She has also served on committees for both the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO).
Fiona worked for an independent group of opticians for 25 years before becoming a partner in two practices. She has been freelancing since 2023, and still spends several days a month in practice as a locum.
The previous Master, optometrist Mike Harris, now becomes Deputy Master. Fiona will also be supported this year by optometrist David Baker (Upper Warden) and Professor Leon Davies (Renter Warden).
Fiona says:“I feel both honoured and privileged to take office as Master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. “As a Livery company, our home is in the City of London, but we are proudly open to members from across the UK and further afield. I am a living embodiment of this, as probably the first Master of the Company to be commuting from Aberdeenshire. “In my year as Master, I will do all I can to advance our mission: supporting better vision for all. I particularly look forward to leading the Company as we prepare to celebrate our 400th anniversary in 2029.”
