Bob Hutchinson meets Dame Laura Kenny at HETT Show.

Charismatic, Dynamic and Inspirational words which describe Laura.

I was invited to interview her after she spoke to an attentive audience about her life her successes (which are many) and the hurdles she has overcome whilst combining  motherhood (she has 3 children) with her early career in which she openly shared her experiences of miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy.

The girl from Cheshunt speaks and tells it like it is! She speaks my type of language!

Dame Laura Kenny:

Pedalling Into the Record Books and Our Hearts

In the world of cycling, few names evoke as much admiration and awe as Dame Laura Kenny. With her unmistakable determination and charming humility, Kenny has not only dominated velodromes around the globe but also won the hearts of a nation. As Britain’s most successful female Olympian, her legacy is already etched in the annals of sporting history.

Kenny’s journey began in the quiet suburbs of Hertfordshire, where a childhood asthma diagnosis nearly derailed her athletic ambitions before they even started. Yet, in a twist befitting her fighting spirit, Laura’s parents encouraged her to pursue cycling for health, unwittingly setting her on the path to greatness. By her teens, her prodigious talent was clear, and she quickly rose through the ranks of British Cycling’s development program.

Her Olympic debut at London 2012 was nothing short of sensational. Kenny, then only 20, captured gold in both the team pursuit and the omnium, instantly becoming a household name. She repeated the double gold feat in Rio 2016, cementing her status as a cycling superstar. In Tokyo 2020, Kenny made history once more, clinching her fifth Olympic gold, the most ever won by a British woman, and inspiring countless young athletes in the process.

But Kenny’s influence extends far beyond her medal count. In a sport often overshadowed by its male counterparts, she has become a role model for female cyclists and athletes everywhere. Her advocacy for women in sports and her candid discussions about the challenges of motherhood and elite competition have resonated with fans worldwide. As a mother herself, she has navigated the complexities of balancing family and sporting excellence with grace and candour.

Her partnership with husband and fellow cyclist Sir Jason Kenny is legendary in its own right. Together, the Kennys are British sporting royalty, sharing a staggering 12 Olympic gold medals between them. Their mutual support and playful rivalry have captivated the public, offering a rare glimpse into the personal lives of elite athletes who continue to push each other to new heights.

Off the track, Dame Laura Kenny remains grounded and approachable. Whether she’s sharing training tips, raising awareness for asthma, or championing charitable causes, her authenticity shines through. She has received numerous honours, including a damehood in 2022, but it is her resilience, sportsmanship, and unyielding positivity that endear her most to fans and fellow athletes alike.

As she looks toward future competitions and new challenges, one thing is certain: Dame Laura Kenny’s story is far from over. She continues to inspire the next generation, proving that with passion, perseverance, and a bit of pedal power, anything is possible. In the fast-paced world of sport, it’s rare to find a champion who is as genuine off the track as she is unstoppable on it. Dame Laura Kenny is, unquestionably, one of a kind.

Breaking News which Laura shared with me is that any hint of retirement is off the cards, she has just been made the new President of the Comminwealtyh Games England.

Definitely “a girl after my own heart”
