BCLA Asia heads to Tokyo with Call for Papers issued

A Call for Papers has been issued for BCLA Asia 2026 – taking place in Tokyo next May with a vibrant programme featuring cutting-edge research, clinical insights, and global collaboration in the area of contact lens and anterior eye.

The event has been organised by the BCLA in partnership with the Japan Contact Lens Society (JCLS), and will be held in Tokyo, Japan, at the Takanawa Gateway Convention Center.

The BCLA Asia programme will take place on Friday, 29 May, followed by the JCLS Annual Meeting on Saturday, 30 May and Sunday, 31 May.

The conference will include keynote talks by leading global experts from Japan, UK, USA, Australia, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, cutting-edge research paper presentations, and excellent case reports.

A call for papers on topics such as myopia, dry eye and contact lens and care products has now been issued and abstract submissions for inclusion in the programme will be accepted until 23:59 Japan Standard Time (JST) on 30 November 2025, which is 14:59 (GMT) on 30 November 2025.

Brad Parkes, chief executive of the BCLA, said: “We’re delighted to be heading to Japan for the 2026 BCLA Asia conference. Tokyo serves as a premier destination for exploring advancements in innovative technologies and future trends in the field, owing to its blend of cutting-edge infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and exceptional global connectivity.

“The meeting is strategically designed to leverage Japan’s position as the world’s second-largest contact lens market, generating over $2.5 billion in annual revenue and serving as one of the central hubs for innovation and development in the field.

“Topics will span myopia control, dry eye management, speciality lenses, and smart technologies. Attendees will engage with global experts, explore innovations in contact lens science, and network with peers from across Asia and beyond.

“The exhibition will allow delegates to get hands-on with the latest products, and sponsors will update the audience on their innovations and future strategy. There will be plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues and the wider contact lens and anterior eye community.

“This is your opportunity to showcase your world-class, clinically relevant research and help shape the future of contact lens and anterior eye care by presenting your work and contributing to the global dialogue in the field. We also aim to nurture new researchers, clinicians, and young academics to present at this level.”

The science stream is evaluated through the submission of abstracts, which may be presented as free papers, subject to allocation by the BCLA Academic Committee. Each paper presentation typically lasts 10 minutes, including a 2-minute session for questions and answers. Case reports are also eligible for presentation as free papers. Unfortunately, poster submissions are not being accepted for this conference.

Sessions at the conference will be in English and Japanese to ensure both Eastern and Western audiences can participate.

The conference is hosted at a newly built venue conveniently located adjacent to the station, with easy access from both Shinagawa Station and Haneda Airport, making it ideally situated for many delegates.
