Award for improving healthcare access for people experiencing homelessness

The work of community optometry and audiology practices to improve access to care for people experiencing homelessness has been recognised at a major retail awards ceremony.

Specsavers scooped the Community Engagement Programme of the Year award at the People in Retail Awards in London. The award celebrates excellence in initiatives and campaigns making a meaningful impact beyond the workplace, with other high street names among the finalists.

Joni Nettleship, engagement manager for the Specsavers homelessness programme, says: ‘We are proud and humbled to be recognised for our efforts to support people affected by homelessness. This award is a testament to the dedication of our colleagues and partners across the country, who work tirelessly to serve their communities.’

She adds: ‘Specsavers is passionate about making a difference. By improving access to care for people experiencing homelessness, we hope to remove barriers and help build healthier, more inclusive communities. We are grateful to everyone who supports this vital work – it is truly a collective effort.’

The recognition has been warmly received by Specsavers colleagues and partners involved in the programme – many of whom say their involvement gives added meaning to their work.

‘Being part of an organisation that actively contributes to the well-being of the broader community is incredibly rewarding,’ adds Ms Nettleship. ‘It inspires us every day to keep striving for positive change.’
