GOC erases Carnforth based optometrist from register

The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Michael Moon, an optometrist based in Carnforth, from its register.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired due to not complying with conditions placed on his registration.

In September 2022, Mr Moon received a conditions of practice order after he was found to have failed to conduct appropriate eye examinations, amended patient records, and behaved inappropriately towards a patient. Review hearings since then have shown that he has not complied with the conditions imposed on him, and in the past year, Mr Moon has ‘disengaged’ from the review hearing process. At a review hearing on 9 September 2025, the Committee decided to make an order of erasure.

Mr Moon has until 7 October 2025 to appeal against his erasure.
