BCLA webinar to give a corneal topography masterclass
Eye care professionals will be given a masterclass in corneal topography in contact lens practice as part of an upcoming BCLA webinar.

The session, to be held from 7pm on Tuesday, 30 September, will be filled with practical and visually supported examples of how to use corneal topography in everyday practice. During the session, you’ll quickly be taken from simple spherical eyes to complex lens fittings on various irregular corneal shapes.
By the end of the lecture, participants will be able to use topographic indices to support their initial lens choice or manage visual expectations, and will understand that the topographer is a valuable tool that can be used far more often than just during the initial lens fitting.
The Bausch + Lomb sponsored session will be delivered by Bianca Schut, a lecturer in optics and contact lenses at Deltion College in Zwolle, Netherlands, who said: “This webinar will help delegates gain an insight into how topographic data can be directly applied to select the right contact lens, from simple spherical eyes to complex, irregular corneal shapes.
“Attendees will learn how indices and topographic patterns help predict lens performance, visual outcomes, and optimise lens fittings and discover that the topographer is not only valuable during the initial fitting, but also for follow-up, troubleshooting, and patient education.”
Other key takeaways will include an understanding that better use of topographic data allows for more accurate management of patient expectations and reduces the risk of discomfort or misfits.
Bianca Schut graduated as an optometrist from the Hogeschool in Utrecht in 2014. Her strong passion for fitting contact lenses and the joy she finds in sharing her knowledge and experience led her to work for many years as an advisor at a contact lens supplier. Since 2018, she has also been a member of the Contact Lens Committee of the Dutch Association of Optometrists and organises lecture evenings and congresses for the ANVC.
The webinar is open to all and will be held from 7pm to 8pm on Tuesday, 30 September.
