GOC erases Helensburgh based optometrist from register
The General Optical Council (GOC), the UK regulator for optometrists and dispensing opticians, has decided to erase Andrew Maynard, an optometrist based in Helensburgh, Scotland, from its register.
A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct. Mr Maynard retired from optometric practise while under interim order conditions. As a result, he could not comply with the conditions of his 12-month suspension issued in September 2024. In the interest of public protection, the Committee found it was therefore most appropriate to erase Mr Maynard from the GOC register.
Mr Maynard has until 26 August 2025 to appeal against his erasure.
