100% Optical’s education programme launches
AOP-produced CPD programme provides practical tools to deepen clinical knowledge, enhance decision-making, and improve patient outcomes
The first phase of the education programme for the UK’s premier optical show, 100% Optical, has been announced. Delivered by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) as the event’s official UK partner, the programme features a broad range of sessions designed to help the optical sector deliver exceptional patient care.
Attendees will gain access to a programme of education that expands expertise in key clinical areas, expert-led lectures, workshops and peer reviews, as well as numerous networking opportunities with fellow optical professionals.
Dr Ian Beasley, AOP Head of Education, said: “We are proud to present an education programme that delivers practical tools to deepen clinical knowledge, enhance decision-making, and improve patient outcomes. Attendees will benefit from hands-on learning, expert insight and industry engagement, with opportunities to develop professionally, build networks and take away ideas that they can apply in practice.”
Highlights from the announced CPD sessions include:
- Main stage: Robyn Aprey, Development Manager at Glaucoma UK, will deliver a lecture on developing culturally relevant eye health initiatives and promoting early detection in glaucoma, highlighting outreach work with African and Caribbean communities. Eleanor Curzon, Barrister at 23ES will present a lecture offering an overview of the General Optical Council’s fitness to practice process and the impact of remediation during investigations
- Optical Academy: Matthew Chan, Optometrist at Bristol Eye Hospital will lead a peer review on anterior uveitis, featuring real-world case reviews designed to sharpen diagnostic and management skills. Multimedia and Clinical Editor at Optometry Today, Ceri Smith-Jaynes will host a peer review on clinical and ethical scenarios in anterior segment eye disease, promoting reflective practice and improving clinical decision making
- Dispensing workshop: A discussion workshop led by Eluned Creighton-Sims, Independent Educator at Excelsior Optical Education, will demonstrate how routine clinical encounters can be structured into publishable research. Preeti Singla, Optometry and Low Vision Engagement Manager at RNIB, will host a session focusing on inclusive communication and thorough history-taking for patients with sight loss.
